Roll’in Rock Starz: two pilot episodes.

In 2005 I got to art direct the 2 pilot episodes for Roll’n Rock Starz.

This show was the brain child of Gabor Csupo. One of several pilots Klasky-Csupo created for Nickelodeon in the mid 2000’s.

The show was about a musical family. Mom, Pop, Rick, Ruby, Mo and Ringo. They are rocks. The kids are star shaped, hence the title of the show. The people in this world are rocks.

It was designed for and animated in a Flash style program called CelAction. I had to create a background style that would work with the characters which have a lot of texture and highlights.

I went with a flat color palette without gradations and texture. The backgrounds were drawn on paper, scanned, and the painted over in Photoshop.

It was a fun gig!
