Ben 10 Omniverse.
I was a background and prop/vehicle designer on this multi season (8: 10 episode seasons) iteration of Ben 10.
Derrick Wyatt and Matt Youngberg developed and were show runners/art director/supervising directors of this.
I had previously worked with them on Transformers Animated, also at Cartoon Network.
I really enjoyed working with these guys. Both very positive and supportive.
Galvan:
One of the funnest assignments I had was on Ben 10 Omniverse.
I was asked to re-design the planetGalvan.
The Galvans are tiny amphibian beings who have an impressive civilization.
I suggested that the planet should be swampy, and the architecture should reflect swamp/bog plants and fungi.
It was mentioned to me that Galvan had a volcanic past.
With that in mind I used the extinct volcanic craters as a good place to put the cities.
I did not paint these, sadly I don’t know who did.
Asmoths Lab:
Asmoth, creator of the Omnitrix, genetic engineer, and genus.
His lab is full of gadgets and devices, and it’s actually quiet small because Asmoth is only 5 inches tall.
Galvan Natural History: Hall of Predators.
The Galvans, being tiny and smart, and tired of being eaten by bigger creatures, systematically exterminated all of them. Relegating their memories to museum exhibits.
Derrick and Matt wanted a Third Class Star Liner. I did a sketch and they liked it and then I built it.
A very silly vehicle/prop I designed and built was the Hulex Drill Bug. Derrick wanted to look like a bug so I patterned it after a louse. It appears to be huge, but actually it is the size of a louse.
Another place where I got to craft an alien races aesthetic was the Kraaho settlement in Undertown. The Kraaho were Maori like aliens. They have a lot of tribal tattoos so I incorporated those elements onto their equipment. They were from a very warm tropical planet and found earth to be too cold. So they were going to drill a hole in the ground and make a volcano.
They sketch to the left was my initial pitch. Derrick and Matt liked it so off I went.
