Harley Quinn: Seasons 1-5

I was a background designer and Sketch Up modeler for all 5 seasons of Harley Quinn.

A very funny show.

The basic background style was created by Rodel Gravo.

The original BG paint direction was created by William Wray.

Jason Park did the vast majority of pre-design Sketch Up models.

A lot of my job was taking his models and plussing them up. Adding every day details and architectural design. Then I would do the final line design over the SKP render.

This was a wide ranging show, lots of locations, lots of villains lairs, crazy machines, and every day street scenes.

I did a lot of designs, but I was only one of 4 BG designers so you can imagine how many final designs there actually were.

Fun stuff!

Harley Quinn: Season one.

The Dead Mall. Harley and Crews initial lair.

Various locations where there were fights, burglaries, explosions, sometimes all three.

Harley Quinn: season two.

The Shark Club. Exterior and interior. The Sharks use sunken ships for their social spots.

( I did not do the BG paint on theses. I do not know who did it.)

At the begging of the second season The Joker sets off a bomb under Gotham City that causes a huge earthquake.

So the city is wrecked and lawless and the big villains divide the city up into their individual territories.

The villains meet in the earthquake damaged rotunda of the city hall. ( I did not do the BG paint for this and I don’t who did)

The interior of Mister Freezes laboratory. (I did not do the BG paint on these and I don’t know who did.)

The container terminal in Gotham Harbor. Batman has a big fight here with Bane.

( I did not do the BG paint on these and I don’t know who did)

Harley Quinn: Season three.

Interior of the Shark Cathedral. Another sunken ship. The occasion, King Shark’s father’s funeral.

The abandoned amusement park final line design was done expertly by Rodel Gravo.

The abandoned amusement park.

The first pass at the model for this location was done by Jason Park.

His model was then used by the storyboard artists for their layouts.

I was tasked with adding detail and stylistic elements to the location.

I did a lot of research on carnival rides, etc for the exterior…. and then there was the whole interior of the roller coaster to figure out and build.

The model was then re-used two episodes later in a flashback sequence to when a young Bruce Wayne has a nightmare.

The final clean up line interior of the derelict roller coaster (only two of 12) done by me.

This was the flashback amusement park.

Harley Quinn: season four.

I did a lot of locations for this season.

But, they were rather ordinary, executive bathrooms, kitchens (2) storefronts, bank interiors, Gotham streets.

One of the really interesting locations I did do for this season was the first pass at the underground base of the Gotham Rebels. It was set in a dystopian future. My first pass was not used and I was unable to do another version because I was transferred to Kite Man (Hell Yeah!)

Harley Quinn: season five.

In season five, Harley and Ivy move to Metropolis. (just across the harbor)

Metropolis is a very clean, modern city… a perfect city. Made that way by the villain Brainiac.

The Control Room of Brainiac’s Ship.

The first pass at the model for this location was done by Jason Park. This model was used by the storyboard artists for their layouts.

I was tasked with making the space more organic, more asymmetric, and then do the finial line designs. FUN!

Metropolis locations

This is an example of the final design.

I lost the file for finial line work for this layout.

Lena Luthor’s apartment.

I got to do all things Lena Luthor apartment. Inside, outside, etc.

The designs shown here are not the final designs. The final designs are basically the same, but have different floor lamps. I really didn’t like those final floor lamps and since it’s my website, I’m going to show the lamps that I liked.
